Eco-focused Riverview Park
We will be visiting two homes and a pollinator garden. The meeting point is at Riverview Alternative School from where we go on a short walk to a home with a ground source heat pump. Then we will walk to a pollinator garden and continue to a home with solar panels. We will be talking to the home owners and gardener who will share their knowledge and experience in hopes of inspiring others to embrace sustainable living practices. Questions from participants are welcome.

Route

We will meet in front of Riverview Alternative School. First, we'll proceed along Dorion Ave. and Alta Vista Dr. to Abbey Road to visit a house with a heat pump installed. From there, we'll take Balfour Ave. and Cluny St to visit the pollinator garden. After that visit, we will double back to Lennox Park Rd to visit a home with a solar panel installation, following which we will return to Riverview Alternative School where the walk will end.

For a portion of this walk, we will be inside in relatively confined spaces. Please bring a mask to wear during the time we are indoors out of consideration for other participants.

The starting point is a 12 minute walk from the Lycee Claudel stop on the OC Transpo transitway.

For those who need it, there is parking at Riverview Alternative School.

Please review our covid guidelines before attending a walk.
About the walk leader

Aija is a volunteer with Ottawa South Eco Action Network (OSEAN), and she is thrilled to be part of Jane's Walk this year. OSEAN encourages politicians and citizens to take steps to reduce climate change by adopting sustainable solutions as part of everyday life. Think Globally and Act Locally. Ottawa South is our location so visiting and learning from eco action neighbours is spot on.

Heather is pleased to contribute in a small way to building community in the memory of an important leader of community building, Jane Jacobs. As climate change looms, our efforts toward sustainability are more critical than ever. Heather is working to make her home more sustainable in several ways and, along with others in the neighbourhood who are doing the same, she is happy to share our experiences with other interested folks.
