Civic Hospital and Experimental Farm

Photo:  The Civic Hospital Campus, 1924.

In this walk, we will explore the area around the Civic Hospital and the Central Experimental Farm. Over the last year, the controversy over the site of the new campus of the Ottawa Hospital played itself out, with a final decision taken to locate it on the former site of the Sir John Carling Building. A lot of history, interesting architecture and current affairs will be wrapped up in this walk.

Location
Route

Meet in Hintonburg Park, at Fairmont Ave & Duhamel St., behind St Francis of Assisi Church and the Hintonburg Community Centre.  From there, we will walk south along Fairmont, under the Queensway, then west to Reid Park, south on Reid Ave to the Civic Hospital and the Experimental Farm, before walking north on Fairmont back to Hintonburg Park.

Note that it is a steady climb from Reid Park to the Experimental Farm, but then we get to walk back down again.

There is street parking in the side streets around the park and behind the Hintonburg Community Centre.
