Sketches of Family Life in the Sandy Hill of Yesteryear

Photo:  All Saints Church

On this walk, I will share my impressions of social and family life in Sandy Hill in the 1890s and the 1940s.  I will offer personal stories and vignettes set in the historical context to illustrate those times, and the experience will be punctuated by views of specific houses along the route.

I grew up in Sandy Hill between 1943 and 1958.  My grandparents lived and worked in Sandy Hill from 1937 to 1951, and my grandfather had lived here in the 1890s.   I have just written and published a book, much of which focuses on old Sandy Hill.  The book is entitled  The Life and Times of George Penrose Woollcombe:  Educator.

Although I am giving this walk in English, I speak French as well, and participants are invited to ask questions in either language.
