The Social History of Hintonburg

Cette promenade a également lieu en français.

Come discover the heart of Hintonburg on a tour with the History and Heritage Committee of the Hintonburg Community Association. Learn some social history through the built fabric of one of the City's most walkable and eclectic neighbourhoods.

This walk begins at the century-old Parkdale Market, across from a former industrial complex and a neighbourhood tavern that is planned for redevelopment. Featured will be several heritage properties in Hintonburg, three health-care institutions, commercial/residential properties as well as a church, a school, and a former Chinese laundry. Throughout, you will learn about the evolution of Hintonburg from farmland to industrial area to streetcar suburb and from a stand-alone village to the vibrant urban neighbourhood it is today.
