Ottawa Love Stories

Where do Ottawa's love stories happen, where do they go and keep going? And what do these places sound like? Ottawa Love Stories is an interactive and collaborative digital history project that maps and sonifies people's love stories in the city. First kisses, first dates, first fights, anniversaries, weddings, the start of a lifelong friendship... these are the stories people shared along with the places in Ottawa where they happened. These individual paths were then sonified by taking the coordinates and turning them into music notes (www.ottlovestories.wordpress.com/maps), creating unique, sometimes strange, melodies.

On this walk, we will not only visit some of these places, tell the stories behind them, and hear what they sound like, but also discover how public and digital history can allow us to see our city through fresh eyes. Though the stories span everywhere from Kanata to the airport, we will be starting our journey at Parliament Hill and make our way to Chinatown. People participating in this walk will be the first to hear the launch of the fifth love story! Together, we will see that the places we pass by, the roads we cross, and the spaces we enter every day tell these special stories, if we just listen.

Location
Route

We'll meet by the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill and walk to the Comic Book Shoppe (left on Bank St). On the way, we'll be listening to one or a sample of songs from Ottawa Love Stories. We'll then make our way to Dundonald Park on Somerset, and end at McNabb Park on Gladstone and Bronson.

To access the songs along the route, the guide will have a bluetooth loudspeaker, but there will also be an Apple Music playlist available, which you can access from your own devices.
