While we know about Colonel By and the logistics of building the Rideau Canal, the personal stories of the workers who contributed their blood, sweat and tears are less celebrated.
This is a lecture-style presentation in the historic church. Participants are welcome to explore the graveyard, follow the self-guided walking tours offered in the village, and participate in the other walks/talks/activities being held across and around Burritt's Rapids.
Glenn J Lockwood was raised in the Rideau Canal villages of Toledo and Newbliss, completing his studies in Art History and History at Queen's University and the University of Ottawa with his Ph.D. Since 1974, he has published a dozen books, most recently The Story of Brockville. Since 1999 he has been Archivist for the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. In recent years he has become a mono-maniac on the subject of building dry stone fences.
