Burritt's Rapids: An Architectural Walk With the Village Doyennes

Burritt's Rapids is one of the 26 villages in the amalgamated City of Ottawa, located in the very southwest corner, straddling both the Rideau River and Canal. It was founded in 1793 by United Empire Loyalists and is remarkably well-preserved, both architecturally & naturally. And did I mention charming?

Participants will walk the streets of Burritt's Rapids with a focus on the homes/buildings on the 'island'. A self-guided pamphlet of the walk is also available at the community hall. A soft copy is available on line: www.burrittsrapids.ca/picture/walkingtour.pdf

The Community Hall is located at 23 Grenville St. in the village of Burritt's Rapids.

Please note: the village has no bank machine or other services.

About the walk leader

Olivia and Renee have earned the rank of 'Doyenne' through a combination of time served and experience earned! Settling in Burritt's Rapids when there was no Hwy 416, no internet, and weekly bingo at the community hall, they wrote the book, literally, on the architectural history of the village: Burritt's Rapids: 1793-1993 - A Scrapbook. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the walk.

The community hall, the village and the trails are accessible. There is an accessible washroom at the community hall. The library has two steps at its front door so it is not wheelchair accessible.
