The New Lansdowne Park

This walk will explore and consider the new Lansdowne Park. We will start at the new staircase that leads to the stadium, which is still the prime landmark for the park. It will be a blend of the old and new, as we see the new structures, the berm, the skate park and the plaza, as well as the Aberdeen Pavilion and the Horticulture Building. We will talk about the history and successive iterations of the park, to understand where it came from and where it's going. The walk will end at Holmwood Ave, the most controversial aspect of the new development. We will see where Sylvia Holden Park has been turned into new condo developments.

A lot of politics are wrapped up in Lansdowne. This walk will acknowledge the politics without making strict pronouncements.

Route

Starting at the staircase, we will walk to Exhibition Way (the main entrance), continue east along Exhibition Way, then head to the berm, the water fixture, and the skate park. At this point, we will approach the Aberdeen Pavilion. From the Pavilion, we will stop at the Horticulture Building, and continue west on Marche Way through the plaza to Bank Street. Then we'll turn north and head to Holmwood Ave. and walk east along Holmwood and then back to Bank St., where we will end.

Accessibility:

The route will be mostly accessible, following paved paths and city sidewalks. Going up the berm is technically accessible (no stairs), but it could pose a challenge for those with mobility limitations. I would happy to make adjustments to the route if anyone will have difficulty climbing the berm.
