Folk on the Street

Photo: Folk music mural, Bank & Sunnyside.

Ottawa has been 'Folk City' since the 1950s. Coffee houses like Le Hibou, The Wasteland, The Kitchen Cinq, Le Monde, and Roosters have highlighted some of Canada's finest talent, a good portion of it local. Currently, Ottawa is the home of the Ottawa Folklore Centre, The Ottawa Folk Festival, The Canadian Folk Music Awards, The Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (with their annual folk Conference) and the Canadian Folk Music Walk of Fame, aka 'Folk Walk'. Come spend an afternoon in the neighborhood that hosts the Folk Walk and hear about the current plaques, the folk murals, and the state of folk music in our city. There will be live music.

Route
We will head south on Bank St, stopping at each Folk Walk Plaque and discussing the person on the plaque. I will lead a song relevant to each person honored in the Folk Walk. A song sheet will be given out for people to sing along, along with a short history of each Folk Walk star.
