Wellboro Walks

Once “far” outside the downtown core, Ottawa’s West End is filled with fascinating historical places that provide an interesting glimpse into our neighbourhood’s past. We will explore some lesser known, and also some well-known locations along Richmond Rd. within Westboro, Wellington West and into Hintonburg.

With some places still standing, and others long gone, we will stroll through the neighbourhood examining over twenty places of interest that include old movie theatre locations (we had four), train stations, and even a lost turn-of-the-century amusement park. A map showing some of these locations will be provided for participants to follow along.

Route

We will begin our adventure at the Maplelawn/Keg Manor on Richmond Road and make our way east towards Hintonburg, making numerous stops along the way.  Due to the distance we'll be covering, this tour is an extended walk, approximately 2 hrs in duration.  Even if we are not all completely exhausted from the expedition, we will need refreshments afterwards, so plan time for a coffee or beer with us at the end!
