Burritt's Rapids: Disappearing Habitat: Killing the Goose That Laid the Golden Egg

In this family-friendly, interactive chat, John McKenzie will discuss the importance of wildlife habitat and Matt Alkerton will dispel the myths of trapping practices. Be prepared to engage all your senses! There will be many pelts, traps and many other surprises to see, smell, touch, and hear.

Participants are asked to park in the village, along River Road, or at the Burritt's Rapids lock station. It is a half-km walk from River Road (the start of his driveway) to the workshop at Tall Pines. Please allow 30 min to walk from the village to Tall Pines, 20 min to walk from the lock station, or 15 min to walk from River Road.

This "habitat chat" will be held in John's workshop at "Tall Pines", a small but wondrous natural history museum. Post-talk, participants are invited to explore John's woodland trail, leading through a variety of natural habitats. (2 km)

John is a retired Wildlife Specialist with the Ministry of Natural Resources. He is also a Firearms Safety and Hunter Safety instructor and lives on a Christmas Tree Farm.

Matt Alkerton is a trapper working with his family's company "Nuisance Wildlife Control."

The Tall Pines workshop is accessible, but the driveway is 0.5 km long and could be muddy depending on the weather.
