Montreal Road Revitalization: Realizing the Vision

Note:  This is a bilingual walk. / Ceci est une visite guidée bilingue (description française).

This walk along Montreal Road offers the local community and other participants an opportunity to examine the City's plans for revitalization of Vanier's "Main Street" and to discuss the project's goals and implications.  We will cover different aspects of the project, including the complete street model, streetscaping, landscaping, and new public spaces, and we will consider issues such as traffic calming, cycling infrastructure, pedestrian safety, accessibility, and walkability, as well as community goals to reflect Vanier's francophone heritage and its rich cultural diversity.

We will visit three new public spaces including Place Dupuis (proposed Place franco-ontarienne), the heart of a revitalized French Quarter. Public art will be an important aspect of the revitalization project, and we will discuss possible ways it can be incorporated in the new public areas.

Participants will be asked to share their hopes and concerns for Montreal Road, as well as their expectations for and experiences with the project and similar projects elsewhere in Ottawa.

After the walk, participants will be invited back for a BBQ.  The detailed design concept for Montreal Road and plans for public art will be shared and participants will be asked for comments and ideas.

RSVP requested!

The walk leaders would like to know how many people to expect for the walk and the BBQ, so they can plan appropriately.  Please email them if you plan to attend the walk and if you will stay for the BBQ.  Indicate how many people are coming with you.  Send an email message to the Vanier Community Association.
