Ottawa's ByWard Market

The walk will explore the history, delights, and current challenges to Ottawa’s well-loved By Ward Market. It will pose questions about the prospects for recovery from the devastating William St fire of April 12,2019, the City of Ottawa’s By Ward Market rejuvenation strategy, the decline of the outdoor Farmer’s Market, the future of the York street plaza, and the impact of the new Rideau LRT Station opening soon.

We will meet in front of the south entrance to the By Ward Market Building.  From there, the route will take us south on William St. to the LRT station; back north on By Ward to York, past the fire damaged  William St. buildings.  We'll return to the Market Building south entrance where we started (see illustration).
