Jacobs 101: An introduction to the ideas of Jane Jacobs

Photo:  The Brothers' Beer Bistro at Dalhousie & George Sts.  Note that the next building over is the original Giant Tiger Store.

This is designed to introduce the ideas of Jane Jacobs, using Ottawa landmarks and neighbourhoods to illustrate the ideas detailed in her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities. We'll explore the roles of sidewalks, parks, zoning regulations, and more as we walk from the Byward Market to Parliament Hill.

Meet at the corner of Dalhousie and George Sts, outside Brothers Beer Bistro.  From there, we will move through the market to Major's Hill Park, then to the Government Conference Centre, before ending at Parliament Hill.

Note that the route will take us up and down the York Steps (the stairs connecting Sussex St and Mackenzie Ave.).
