Heritage Minutes Walking Tour

Heritage Minutes—the 60-second Canadian history vignettes that have been shown on Canadian television since the 1990s—provide glimpses into history that may not have been taught in school. Using the minutes as a focal point, this walk will delve a bit deeper into some of the locations in downtown Ottawa where history either took place or has been commemorated in bronze.

Meet at the fountain in Confederation Park (across Laurier Ave from City Hall).  We’ll head up Elgin St to Wellington St and Parliament Hill. We’ll then turn back along Wellington St, stopping at the Valiants' Memorial (beside the War Memorial), then along Mackenzie Ave to the Peacekeeping Monument. The final stop will be across the street at the steps of the Notre-Dame Cathedral on Sussex near St Patrick.

Au sujet du guide

Fans of history and overly ambitious road trips, Rebecca and Jim are driving the highways and back roads of Canada visiting locations they’ve chosen for each and every Heritage Minute.  Ostensibly an excuse to see the country and learn more about the history of Canada, it’s also revealed how many links to that history can be found in our own backyard here in Ottawa.
