In this tour we will walk from the National War Memorial down Elgin Street, ending at "Enclave": the Women's Monument in Minto Park.  Along this stretch of Elgin Street we will visit many well-known and more obscure monuments—twelve in total.  I will discuss the history of the monuments as well as moments in their lives: moments of protest, defacement, and the politics of annual monument rituals.

Trajet

We'll meet at the National War Memorial in Confederation Square (Wellington & Elgin Sts).  From there, we'll walk south on Elgin to Minto Park (Gilmour St), and then through the park toward Cartier St.

Au sujet du guide

Tonya Davidson is a sociologist at Carleton University. Her long-term research interest has been on Ottawa statues. This tour is the result of that research.
