Lebreton Flats: Past, present & future.

Photo: Aerial view of Lebreton Flats

I've done this walk twice before with Jane's Walk, and things have progressed (if that's the right word) considerably in the last ten years. And now the grand scheme for LeBreton Flats has been selected, based on a hockey rink, and so the walk will include discussion of the next decade in the rollercoaster history of the Flats, where Ottawa first started. Please bring your opinions along to share.

We'll meet on the plaza in front of the War Museum. From there, we'll walk past the Holocaust Memorial (NE corner of Eddy Street and the Parkway), cross the Parkway, past the FireFighters Memorial, south on Lett St. along the front of the condo row, to the Booth Street Bridge, west on south side of Parkway, cross over at edge of War Museum, along the back of the Museum past the Chaudière Falls, and back to our starting point.

Au sujet du guide

Phil Jenkins is a singer-songwriter, journalist, and the author of several books about the history of Ottawa, including An Acre of Time, which is simultaneously about a single acre of land in Lebreton Flats and about Canada's and even mankind's attitude toward land, it's use, and control. Phil describes himself as a "landscape artist, but I write word pictures on the page, not paint on canvas."  You can find out more at his website, www.philjenkins.ca.
