The walk will explore the history, delights, and current challenges to Ottawa’s well-loved By Ward Market. We will pose questions about the decline of the outdoor Farmer’s Market and the City of Ottawa’s By Ward Market rejuvenation strategy. We will visit the new George Street Plaza; the recently restored Ogilvy Department Store heritage facades on Rideau Street; pose questions about the impact of the new LRT Rideau Station opening in 2018; explore the most recent changes in the NCC’s Sussex Drive heritage courtyard properties; and visit “Inspiration Village” (opening May 20, 2017) for its potential to help us re-imagine York Street.
