Places of Significance to Homeless People

Homeless people's walk, Jane's Walk 2008.

The Byward Market area is important to homeless people because two major organizations that care for them are located here. This walk will begin at The Shepherds of Good Hope, where we will talk to Ian Houston and Conrad Gray. Both these individuals spend many years on the street and they have agreed to share with the group how they got off the street and how they are making out now. Then we will pass by Centre 454.  We'll visit several other places of significance to Homeless People, such as the Sandy Hill community center on Rideau St., where we'll stop for a moment to discuss their case management program for homeless people.  Along the way we will hear from street artist Stewart Poulin and see some of his work, and street musician Bill Blais who is an accomplished musician.

We'll wind up at the Mackenzie bridge where we will view a short film called 'Move Along' (14 min), followed by a question and answer session.
