Jane's Walk for 2022: Lead a walk

Jane's Walk Ottawa-Gatineau is back for May 2022!  The festival dates are Saturday & Sunday, May 7 & 8.  Registration opens on April 5.

We are confident that folks in Ottawa and Gatineau will embrace the opportunity to explore their city in unique ways again after the long pause, and will appreciate the opportunity to return to the core mission of Jane's Walk as a festival of walking tours to bring people back in touch with their city, its neighbourhoods, and the delightful secrets that they can find there.

What's new for 2022

We'll be doing things a little differently this year to manage the pandemic risks and to try to keep everyone feeling comfortable.  We'll be registering fewer walks, requiring advance walker sign-up, and limiting the size of the group on each walk.  We've published a protocol for walk leaders and participants consistent with public health guidelines.  Walk marshals will be responsible for seeing that the guidelines are followed.  (See the Jane's Walk Ottawa-Gatineau covid-19 guidelines for details.)

Because we are limiting both the number of in-person walks and the number of attendees at each walk, we may not be able to accept all walks submitted this year.  The limit on the number of attendees means that participants will need to sign up on line if they wish to attend a walk, and they will need to sign up separately for each walk.

To compensate for the limited number of in-person walks, we are opening registration for two other walk types.

  • self-guided walks that can be downloaded to a mobile or printed out so that walkers can follow a route on their own
  • virtual walks which offer a video or a series of still images accompanied by audio or text explanations that can be viewed online.

There is no limit on the number of self-guided or virtual walks that we can post as part of this year's program, and they will be available throughout the summer for people to explore at their leisure.
