Uptown Rideau: Mainstreet, Interrupted

This walk will be a review of the commercial & institutional life of street over previous 125 years, and how it has grown and then declined.  Will renewed street services reverse this decline?

Participants will have an opportunity to participate. Let's discuss hat kinds of future businesses will help integrate the community and which will hurt. What is the role of the 2005 community design plan?

Chris Bradshaw at Jane's Walk, 2013.

We'll walk eastward on Rideau from last remaining Jewish business to the point where street-car service transitioned to bus service, and where there were four hospitals.

Retired from a career in planning, Chris has lived in Ottawa for over 40 years; over 30 of those in downtown neighbourhoods. Dedicated to pedestrian issues, he was founder and president of Ottawalk (1988-2000) and Gottawalk, and was co-founder of Vrtucar (2000-2006). He has been leading walks for Jane's Walk Ottawa every year from the very beginning.
